UMMA Health Opens Figueroa Care Center, Bringing the First Urgent Care to South Los Angeles

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

UMMA Health marked a historic milestone today with the opening of the Figueroa Care Center, the first urgent care facility in South Los Angeles. The new center expands access to timely, non-emergency medical care for families who have long had to rely on hospital emergency departments for conditions that could be treated closer to home.

Designed with both patients and providers in mind, the Figueroa Care Center offers walk-in and same-day urgent care for acute illnesses and injuries, on-site imaging and diagnostics for faster evaluations, and expanded access for Medi-Cal, Medicare, and uninsured patients. By providing comprehensive urgent care under one roof, the center will help reduce pressure on neighboring emergency departments while improving health outcomes across the community.

“Today represents a meaningful step forward in ensuring South LA families can access the right care, at the right time, in a space built with dignity at its core,” said Adel Syed, Ed.D., CEO of UMMA Health. “More than 250,000 Medi-Cal beneficiaries live in South Los Angeles, and until now many had nowhere nearby to go for everyday urgent needs—like ear infections, fevers, sore throats, sprained ankles, minor burns, or imaging. With evening and weekend hours, this new site gives our community a reliable place to turn when care can’t wait.”

The Figueroa Care Center features nine exam rooms, a radiology lab, and an on-site pharmacy, and is currently open for 40 hours per week, with plans to expand hours as community demand grows. Together, these services ensure patients can receive diagnosis, treatment, and medications in one visit—saving time, reducing barriers, and improving continuity of care.
